With some workarounds to overcome some "Server not available" and other nonsense, known-issue errors, I have found General fields quite reliable for storing Office documents. In fact, I only just started re-evaluated using them last year after some bad initial experiences.

What do they say? If it ain't broke, don't fix it but I'm being forced to "fix" it. LOL.
