My query to a 300,000+ record table is taking too long for my app (5 sec) - especially since when it's published it'll be pulling the table from another machine so it'll be even slower!

The table is linked to other applications maintained by the client, so I cannot make structural changes - but it seems like the indexes match the query.

I'm sure I could tweak syntax a little, but I was wondering if I could speed things up by creating a VIEW instead. I suspect the answer is NO (what's a view, other than a remembered query, anyway). Please let me know if I'm wrong in my thinking.

I figure I'll probably copy a subset of the data to a local table for faster initial display, and let it take the additional time needed for drill-down queries.

Any other suggestions?
