Hi,Thanks for Your support to my ideas.

The existing DB apps run in a multiuser environment
where the DBs may be placed on a server in a network
where they're though acting as file servers. I've been
using most of the features available in the VB3/4 DAO
environment including transaction handling and several
types of VB/SQL access, so I think my knowledge base is
OK from that aspect.

What I'm going to do now is implementing similar but
more transaction intense DB apps. I still want to use
the VB/Jet DB solution - SQL Server solutions will have
to wait till the more DB intense customers who can afford
the extra costs for software licenses etc.

I could use sample code covering the following issues.
- Principles for building client & server side
components for a 3-tier Cl/Svr app.
- Principles for building server side components
for accessing VB/Jet DBs using:
- ADO - if I'll get enough documentation
covering that facility - there is not
a word about the concept in my VB5 enter-
prise ed delivered in June this year!
- RDO otherwise.
As I understand it Microsoft says DAO and RDO (and to
some extent even ODBC) is obsolete and is being replaced
with The ADO (AxtiveX Data Objects).

Development environment: Win95 (Nt soon) - VB5 enterprise
edition.

My customers's environment: Win95 & NT (a lot of them use
networks).

Grateful for any hints.

/Kent :-)

>As far as Databases are concerned Visual Basic is the pioneer in Client Server Databases. So go right ahead and develop them. The best possible application for Databases has been given by Microsoft with each version of Visual Basic. The Visual Data Sample comes along with VB and can be examined for each and every aspect. As far as ADO is concerned I've never tried it. But it wouldn't be difficult either. I suggest you to get strong on the VB/Jet development and then look ahead for ADO.
