Do you mean VFP programs with VFP databases? YES....

I don't know what your experience with VFP (or maybe FPW 2.x) is so I don't know how much you know about DBC and DBF files.
VFP has a database container (DBC) that is an interface (and a table) to keep information about your data tables (DBF), persistent relations, views, etc. etc. Unlike Access, the DBC only contains metadata, not your actual data which lives in the DBF files.
DBFs follow (more or less) the format established years ago by dBase with some additions of course. A companion to the DBF file is the compound index file (CDX) that contains the index tags you create to be able to quickly access the information.
You have to look into a technology called Rushmore that optimizes the search indices to get very fast data access. You can find information about Rushmore in the VFP manual, on MSDN, in books or on sites like the Foxpro Wiki (
http://fox.wikis.com/wc.dll?Wiki~RushMore~VFP). I'm sure that there are some references here in the UT also.
