Hi Ed!

I was wondering if I could benefit of your experience and knowledge on this issue. I have begun to check hard drives for my next personal computer. I've always had IDE hard disks, but I'm considering SCSI drives. Of course, SCSI is not cheap.

As I look at the specs, SCSI drives seems able to deliver 160Mb/sec, while the new ATA100 IDE drives can deliver a nice 100Mb/sec. So, on paper, SCSI drives are 60% faster (and 100% higher priced). Have you made some testing/comparaison on those two types? Can I really expect 50% more performance (on disk activity of course)?

Also, I have seen speeds of 10K RPM and 15K RPM (Seagate Cheetahs). If the external speed is still 160Mb/sec, I'm a little at a loss to understand what difference the 15K RPM does.

Which make/models would you recommend for SCSI hard drivers?

Thank you very much for your time!
