I agree with all of what you said and wouldn't have replied at all but for the thought that I don't think that "best practice" can ever be such if one practises *without* thinking things through.

Surely it can be generally agreed that through history one "best practice" has been replace by another umpteen times. I credit those who *thought about things* for that benefit and certainly not those who stuck with convention for the sake of consistency.
