A DBF header allows for 10 characters for field names. That is the maximum size for a field name. When the table is put in a database then the database allows the field names to be up to 128 characters in length and VFP insures that the 10 char name in the actual dbf file is unique. The longer name is stored in the DBC and is not the actual field name in the dbf.
