If you create a custom configuration for a specific app, it takes effect the next time the app is instantiated rather than waiting for the Win2K environment to reset. using a custom environment offers several advantages over a general modification of CONFIG.NT; you can set up drive mappings, DOS environment variables and other options on an app by app basis, including things like the memory environment, console behavior and how the app responds to certain reserved Windows key sequences, which can let the DOS app handle a key sequence that's normally intercepted by the Windows environment. You can get a feel for what you can configure on an app by app basis by right-clicking on a DOS executable in the Explorer and selecting Properties.
