I've often heard Tom Rettig being credited with setting the tone for the community early on. There may be some truth to that because Tom didn't start using Fox until FoxPro 2.0, and I don't remember there being much of a community in the Foxbase days (at least I wasn't aware of it).

There was a community of us xBasers. We met in the Programmer's forum in CIS up until AshForum (Ashton-Tate) openned and we moved there. I don't remember the name of the CIS forum where we did the Clipper discussions. Then FoxForum took most of the people from AshForum. IOW, Compuserve (CIS) is where all the community feel started (around 1986/87 if I remember correctly).
