I do not see how either one would work because you should get a data type mismatch when you include a data type in a string. I usually build by SQL:
lcSQL = 'insert into laypay ("date") values (' + "'" + dtoc(ldDate) + "', fvLaypay)"
x=SQLExec(gnHandle, lcSQL)
