If the user exits from the Open dialog by clicking on Cancel, the error #52 will be raised and you can handle it. I don't think there is any option to suppress this annoying dialog (but there should be, I agree). That leaves only the alternative strategy of making an explicit check for the condition that would lead to an error before attempting a command that might trigger this dialog.
