We had so much trouble with Word just flashing in the taskbar rather than coming to the front when we do something sinmilar to what you say in Win2000, that we ended up using a general field in a cursor to append general link it just so we could bring it forward.

If you had an hWnd to the Win2K display window, you could use SetForegroundWindow() to bring it to the top of the ZOrder and bring Win2K to the foreground process status. THere are any number of ways to find the hWnd such as FindWindow().
