>>Are those rural West Virginia rates or something? Those rates are way off for the big cities. My current rate is $60.00/hr. just for VFP work - I'd get $100 for VB/ASP/SQL no problem (which is why I've switched). That figure for VC++ is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I wouldn't take anything from that magazine too seriously after seeing that misinformation.

Well, they're still screwed up. The client where I'm currently getting $60.00/hr. for VFP was paying $125.00/hr. for VFP contractors prior. As for VC++, that will almost always pay more. I'm not sure where the VB rates fall but there's a lot more contracts out there to choose from. Java/UNIX/C++ pays the highest, I believe (that's where all the jobs are in Boston although there's still a fair amount of SQL/VB/ASP).
It'll be interesting to see if .NET ever takes off the way ASP has (only to be surpassed by Java). If you look in the classifieds here in the Boston area, there's a very high ratio of C++/Java to ANYTHING Microsoft. Time to learn a new skill (again!) I can't see .NET ever getting market share like that!
