Without knowing everything about your environment, I think this is a typical scenario. NT as an OS is more robust and can handle almost everything better than Win98 (with the exception of video games and W2K corrected that). NT handles memory better. Its drivers also handle disk I/O better so you are bound to get a performance boost using NT.
