The bar code scanner (wedge type)emulates the keyboard, so a program does not have to know a scanner is attached. When you scan a bar code your program will behave exactly as if you typed the code in by hand.
Bar code scanners usually come with an inline decoder that can be programmed, using the manual that comes with the scanner. It's just a listing of bar codes that allow you to set bar code type, upper/lower case, CR/LF, etc.
You should verify the particular scanner specifications satisfy your needs, before you buy.
I, primarily use Code 3 of 9. Most scanners support this code.
