Kevin,

I'm an independent developer and the majority of work I've done over the last 11 years has been from my home office. Usually, in the beginning of the project I meet with the client at their office several times to gather information for developing the specs. Once the specs are worked out, I disappear back to my office and start cranking out code. Depending on the size of the project, there may be "milestone" installations so they can see development of the system as well as start doing some testing. I have separate phone lines for the business and fax and a lot of my communication is done through emails.

It has worked great for me and I feel like I'm a lot more productive than at someone's office. I once filled in for a client's employee when she was on maternity leave and felt like I didn't hardly get anything done because there was so much "social" crap going on at the office. I still keep regular M-F, 8-5 hours and the kids are either off in school or at daycare. I just have a really short commute to work and I don't have to put my shoes on to get there<g>.

One of my clients had a Citrix system set up and that was wonderful because I could get on their system at any time and looking into problems or make changes. Whenever they needed an upgrade, I did it through Citrix after hours so I didn't have to kick anybody off the machine.

Just my 2 cents worth ... and if you are looking for VFP programmers to telecommute, give me a call! I'm available right now!
