Based on what you're saying, I don't think a wedge scanner will work for you.

If the computer is located at the front counter, the counter person might be using it to enter customer transactions and another person at the rack could be scanning racks/ticket numbers. This will not work.

The person scanning racks/tickets must be able to see the screen to verify the cursor is in the correct field (of the correct data collection form) when scanning the ticket. The cursor must advance to the correct field before the rack is scanned (or vice versa).

Considering the cost of portable data collection systems with scanner and/or RF systems and associated additionl programming that would be necessary, I would suggest a dedicated "inexpensive" computer/lan configuration used primarily for scanning.

To visualize why your approach will not work, assume two people are able to use one computer with two keyboards. One can see the monitor, the other is 20' away and can not see the monitor.

>My clients and potential clients are dry cleaners. They all have computers at the front counter running my POS software (written all in VFP6.0 might I add).
>
>They would scan the racks (rack locations are barcoded) and the ticket number to keep track of where on the rack the garments are kept for their customers. I need and want to add a barcode scanning system to my existing POS application to accomplish this.
>
>They will not be walking around with the scanner. The scanner will remain in one location near the rack. The scanner will be attached to the computer via "long" cable.
