> I remember when VFP was being introduced it was stated that perhaps 75% of the FoxPro developers would not make the grade with Visual FoxPro. Seems about right if I look for the faces I once knew who are no longer a part of our development community. The same thing might happen with the Visual Basic developers or they will stay with VB 6, with his/her head in the sand.

Where did they go? They became VB people.

If the VB population sees the same reduction it will only improve the market for professional developers. The people who fall to the wayside will be the ones who were attracted by the money and thought that it would be easy. Now they don't want to make an investment (education, studying, etc) but still want the reward. Clients on the other hand are wanting more sophisticated solutions and we need more sophisticated tools. Those who make an investment will be rewarded.

>Not everyone has to do the latest - greatest from Microsoft. There are a number of people out there making a living taking care of FoxPro 2.0 DOS applications. They may not be rich but they might be happy.

Totally true. Look at COBOL folks. Still working, still getting paid and still using their tool.

I'm not that way. I like the challenge of learning a new tool or technology. Wish I had more time to do it more.
