Looks like something was simply corrupted beyond usefulness. I found a slightly odler copy of the same .VCX and .VCT file that will allow 'pack memo' to run without error. I'll use those and graft my changes into them from the other class methods. The one I found was slightly over 1Mb. The bad one was over 15 Mb and there was not much difference between the two, just some lines in a few methods that I had changed and been testing. I guess I'll keep more frequent copies of known good files and pack/reindex the .VCX files for frequently. Thanks for you help...
