Mike is correct that wwIPStuff allows you to send e-mail without having a mail client installed. You only need to have access to an SMTP server. One disadvantage, however, is that there is no record of what you sent out. I solved this problem by creating a mail log within my app that stores any outgoing mail, along with the status--i.e. whether it was successful, and the error message if it wasn't.
