I don't think this is one of the 'numbered' error messages. You can turn the message off with SET NOTIFY OFF, but you will still not be able to leave the field until the date is fixed. And without the error message your users will be confused as to why they can't move to the next field. Unfortunately the message occurs before the Valid() code is run.

If you must avoid it, you may find it necessary to use a formatted text box with a character entry instead of a date entry. This would mean writing your own "invalid date" code as well as changing the data to Date to store it.
