VB.NET or VB in general is not dead. The VB community is up-in-arms over having to rewrite their apps in VB.NET. Some people have compared it to FPW 2.6 to VFP conversions. MSFT does have a upgrade tool but we know how good those work.

BTW, here is a response I received from an MSFT employee about the future of VFP from one of the program managers for VFP 7.0:

"VFP and .NET: VFP 7.0 is not going to be a .NET language (not going to
target the CLR). We're gathering customer feedback on this for the future.

We're hard at work on Visual FoxPro 7.0. There are great features that we're
shipping in 7.0: IntelliSense, IDE enhancements, better server support,
support for new technologies (XML, web services, etc). I've read messages
in public newsgroups for VFP Developers from people that are testing VFP 7
that state that this version is one of the biggest upgrades of VFP ever.
We've dedicated ourselves to ensure that customer satisfaction with features
is #1."
