To add to what the others have said, knowing the meaning of Sparse may help as well. Some synonyms for Sparse include few, meager, scant, skimpy. Sparse is a thin scattering of units. So if sparse is true you get minimal display of the control in the column. If sparse in not true, then you have an abundance.
