My history of the Confederate flag is shaky, but at the minimum doesn't it represent an organization that made war with the US for years and was defeated? Why don't we fly the Japanese/German/Korean/Spanish/British flags too? The US beat each of them in war. Maybe make room for the USSR flag too?

However, it sounds like a Georgia issue. If you want to be there sitting under a flag that represents fighting the USA, you should be able to. I don't want to be there, so I'm not going there. If anyone wants to live under that kind of symbol, they can (1) pretty much move away or (2) not spend money with anyone who supports something like that that they don't like. Or maybe other states can make appeals to Georgians to get them to move to their state or at least spend their money there. Nothing seems to motivate people around this country like $. I bet if someone (big) was getting hit directly in the wallet each time the Confederate flag flapped over Georgia, you wouldn't hear anything about "heritage" since it usually doesn't equate with "profit" in the US.

The issue would probably get more attention if a Silicon Valley company was looking to move to a new state with a better tax structure/etc , bringing n-thousand jobs, and Georgia lost out of the running because of the Confederate Flag issue.

>In Georgia, as in other southern states, there is a big debate over changing the state flag to eliminate the confederate battle flag portion of the flag. On the one hand there are those that argue that it is racist. On the other are those that say it is a heritage issue.
