I remember that one of the articles I read recently (FoxTalk?) said that VFE was a heavy framework, with lots of code overhead, but that there were plans to correct this. I was wondering if the applications still suffers, or whether VFE has been improved. The other one we're looking at is CodeMine. Does anyone have any experiences, opinions or thoughts they might like to share?

Neil,

I've heard good things about CodeMine, but I've never used it. I am a MM users. When choosing a framework, evaluate all its strengths and weaknesses. It's true, VFE is heavy and somewhat slow, but it's object model is fantastic. MM is light and fast, has an excellent object-model, but you are bound to its data access paradigm. (This may change with the next version.)

VFE is n-tier by design. MM is n-tier by design as well, but you have the option of creating logical tiers as well as physical tiers. I assume VFE does the same. MM does not have as many wizards, but provides for incredible flexibility through the use of design patterns and an abstract factory. MM does have a nice builder for creating grids and dataenvironments. There is also a hook into builderb for creating and modifying builders.

If you have any questions, let me know.
