>Microsoft Proxy Server isn't a firewall solution? It seems to work wonderfully for me. However, as you and JVP seem to have missed, the question wasn't about "personal" firewalls. You asked which firewall I use, and I gave the answer. What are the odds that I'll download Proxy Server from an internal server for my home use, eh? :-)

Hmmm, let's see what I missed...< s >... Here was your respnse:

The Microsoft solution, of course. :-) If you don't want/need to lay out the bucks for that, for personal use I'd recommend Zone Alarm. It's free for personal use, and it seems to work quite well.

Did you not use the word "personal"? Did you not bring zone Alarm into the discussion?

Tell me genius, what did I miss? FWIW, Proxy Server is pure crap. It is a bitch to set up. The administration tools are mediore at best. It is poorly documented. In short, Zone Alarm kicks its ass. If I had to choose a sofware based firewall for non-personal use - it sure as shit would not be proxy server.

For non-personal use, anybody not using a hardware based firewall solution is completely nuts

I'll bet the ranch and the dog that even MS uses something more substantial than Proxy Server.

Doug is correct - Proxy Server for personal use is a bit much. And, I will go one further, not only is a bit much with respect to effort to implement and administer, you don't get the return in performance. Zone Alarm does just fine.

Go have another sip of that MS Kool-Aid!!
