C# is a great language, but its still in beta so I wouldn't suggest you try and deploy it just yet.

Pretty much, the IDE is intuitive (though slow), I have built several WinForm based applications that demonstrates areas in both C# and the BCL without much more effort than using VFP. If you have C/C++ knowledge then it will be easier however I don't think thats a prerequisite for learning C#.
