There is an example of using MCI (media control interface) commands to play an AVI clip from VFP. This technology also allows you to capture live input from external devices using the MCI_RECORD command.

I believe there is a MCI OCX control that ships with VB/VS (MCI32.ocx) that is compatible with VFP 6.0 and encapsulates this functionality for you.
