Thomas,
>Georgia = Iron Bars and barbed wire
I believe the Georgia House of Representatives has just found a compromise on the flag that is suitable to the local civil rights leaders and voted for it in the past two days. I'm urging my state senator to also support it.
I haven't seen it yet, but I believe it includes several previous flags very small across the bottom, as a historical gesture, but dramatically changes the overall look and removes the stars and bars from prominence.
Sounds like a wise plan to me, that most Georgians will support. I'm glad to see it, after seeing the intense resistance to the flag change just 4 years ago, when my pastor (a Republican representative) introduced a bill to change it.
That was quite a scene -- this very conservative Christian Republican, holding a joint news conference with the ACLU to promote his plan. He did it, not because it was politically acceptable to the people of his district, but because it was the right thing to do.
