>I found out this past Friday that students at Middle Schools (at least in Ga) have lost all of their 4th amendmemnt rights.

I, too, have a sixth grade daughter, and there have been some recent rumblings about drugs and alcohol on the buses. I've wondered what the policies are when one student implicates another...I think I'm gonna check Wake County's policy...

I'm with Tamar on this one -- the lack of a female present during the search is a *HUGE* red flag. As a Girl Scout Leader, I'm forbidden from being alone with a girl other than my daughter, and if male leaders/adults are involved, a female adult *MUST* always be present. I'd be on the phone to a good lawyer.

I also think you should have been contacted prior to the search; going back to the Girl Scout Leader model, I can't do much discipline (time-out is about it)at all without contacting the girl's parents.

My most important concern is how your daughter feels about this. She should feel like her *rights* are violated--that's normal and appropriate. But if she feels her *body* has been violated because she was searched by two men, you'll want to help her through some other issues. _Hopefully_ she doesn't feel this way. If she doesn't, be careful of planting the idea in her head (IOW, be sure you talk to the lawyer about this outside of her earshot).

Keep us posted on what you find out. My thoughts are with you and your daughter.
