Since no one else answered, I'll put in my $.02 :)
We are an ACCPAC (formally SBT) VAR. Our business is more geared towards writing add-ons than selling boxes. I don't deal much with the business end of things, but we seem to be doing all right.
If you're mainly doing web stuff, traditional accounting packages don't seem to be a good fit for you. It takes a huge investment of time, and not an insignificant one of money to get into this business.
Now, I'm not a businessperson; I'm a programmer. But I wouldn't recommend doing this as just a side thing. If you end up with a client who needs an accounting program, there's always the option of teaming up with a reseller in your area.
Besides, if you're into cool web stuff, desktop accounting software would be dreadfully boring. :)

>Does it make sense to become a reseller of some VFP accounting package? I've just started consulting (mostly web-database development), and have not yet received any requests for one, but I was wondering if others have used it as a successful business venture and a way to bring in additional revenue?

>If so, which one do you recommend? SBT seems behind the times right now, and I recall hearing about IAS Visual Advance once - but since then I haven't heard a peep!
