I have a prospective client who has an application with which he is unhappy. It was developed using VFP 5.0. The client sent me the executable for the program as well as the data and report files. I have both VFP 5.0 and VFP 6.0 on my machine.
When I tried to run the client's executable, I encountered this error: "Application object not initialized". I was unable to ignore the error and when I clicked on the "Cancel" button, the program crashed.
Subsequently, when I tried to run VFP 5.0, I encountered error 1574: "The Automation server or type library is not registered correctly. Your registry file is corrupted. Remove the registry entry". When I clicked "OK" on the error message dialog it went away without crashing Visual FoxPro.
I have used Regedit to examine the registry in the past but I don't know enough about it to know where to look for the problem and I would be afraid to experiment.
Can anybody tell me what has gone wrong, what I can do about it and how I can prevent it from happening again?
