Nothing is wrong with that. It would only be different. History is strange and we take things for granted.

California could have been a Russian Colony. They had landed at a point North of San Francisco, and established Fort Ross. We Californian's might be speaking Russian today - who knows? By the way, Fort Ross is still there and open to the public.
