>I came into a company with a number of Foxpro APPS out on a server. They use shortcuts on everyone's desktop to run the APPS. So everyone is using the same EXE. This works fine for the most part becasue the programs they use run and give a paper report result once a day. I have an APP where I did the same thing
>but the user is in the APP all day. They are running reports from tables as well as searching and modifing table contents. I am having prblems of a very slow response when they do a search or save. We defragged the server hard drive but still are having the same problems. The VFP engine files are in thesame folder out on the server when I compile the EXE. I was thinking of putting the APP on each PC and only let the it look at the data on the server. I still will need for the search form to look directly at the tables. Is there a place where I should putt the engine files? I have seen them on the server, in the folder for the APP on the PC and in the windows folder. Where oh where should they be? Is it smarter and faster to put the APP on the PC instead of the server? Should I not look directly at a table that I want the user to modify? In other words, should I put the results of the serch in another table, let them modify it and go back out and change the original data in the table?

The runtime files will only run from the \Windows\System directory. An APP may run slightly faster from the PC, but a lot depends on the speed of your network. I suggest copying the entire APP and data to a workstation and see how much performance improves. Sluggish performance may be a design problem and not a network one.
