>Actually, I'm not sure I like the idea of faith-based institutions receiving federal monies. One, I think they will start to look to the feds for help rather than God (Ok, for those who believe that the government and God are one & the same this doesn't wash. <g>) Personally I'd rather not have the $$ and have my faith than the other way around. Secondly, once this happens what will be their ability to resist the influence of some future not-so-friendly administration that will at that time ask for these groups to forego what works to satisfy some God-hating government administrator? What I mean is that at that point it will be difficult to extract themselves. I say let the feds keep the money -or- start a new non-connected organization to protect themselves.

Doug, you may remember, recently the Clinton administration cut off funding for the Memphis Union Mission because they required the homeless to listen to a sermon before feeding them. They are now receiving more money than the government was giving before because of donations from all over the country. The fact that God will provide is hard for some people to believe, but it's very real. Due to that ruling and some others, I'm contributing to them and the Boy Scouts as well as St. Jude and of course my church.
