It depends on how soon you want to get certified. VB7 is slated for the third quarter this year with the rest of VS, and the beta exam for it might become available shortly after that. If you want to use an preparation-for-exam-type book you might have to wait a few more months for them to become available. So that probably puts you into 2002.

Now, MS is saying third quarter this year, but with all the commotion going on with the new version that's a little "iffy". JMO of course.
