>On a Thinkpad P155, by default, COM1 is not enabled. COM2 is and this is the bus mouse port. However, the other connector for COM2 port is not enabled. The Settings - Control Panel - System - Devices - Ports option shows COM2 enable and LPT1. COM1 is not. How do we enable that on Thinkpad P155?

THis is a SWAG, but I'd expect that it's an issue with the BIOS setup rather than a WIndows setting - try going into the BIOS setup befre Windows starts to assign default ports. You also are dealing with a PCCard environment; you may not have the luxury of a standard COM1: device assignment; I know that my AST laptop has COM2: for its COM port connector, and places the built-in modem at COM5: by deafault; this doesn't cause any problem in itself with normal operation, but trying to force port assignments cause mondo headaches with PCCard device integration, especailly some NICs.
