Sounds simialar to the problem I had, but found the answer on the MS web site - knowledgebase. My error was in VFP 3.x and was caused by long file names with W32s support. The old Wizard allowed the app to compile, but would refuse to install due to unsupported file names. The replacement Wizard files - available for D/L from the MS web site, won't allow the setup to complile with W32s support if there are any long filenames in the app. I don't know if this is applicable to VFP 5.x, but there are a several error message numbers listed in the KB list concerning VFP5.x, so if you are running 5, you may find your problem listed.
