Another option is to use a publisher/subscriber metaphor. One machine runs a messaging hub and all instances of your app register with the hub. Any instance of the app can send a message to another subscriber, or can trigger an event that is registered by all other instances which have subscribed.
The Intercom System (
www.cns.nl) is one such hub I've used with some success with VFP. There's an article on
my site that demonstrates the use of this system in a licensing app. I've also writtten an article that uses this system for real time chatting. I think that article will be in the February issue of FoxTalk, but I haven't heard for sure.
