What is the best way to get data from a remote (ISP based) SQL server?

1. Connect to the remote SQL Server using ODBC and run a VFP SQL Query that extracts the data?
2. Download the table or a duplicate, then perform data extraction locally?

If it's best to download the table itself, how is this accomplished?
