SQL Server provides several server-side libraries and client-side protocols to communicate from any computer to the server. Run "Server Network Utility" and "Client Network Utility" programs that come with SQL Server.

Using the Multi-Protocol library you can turn on encryption and thus your data will travel more secure than with the default protocol.
