One place I work for (not the UT but a large organization of over 10,000 employees)... the director of the department ordered two PDAs so that we could experiment with a VBCE interface to our departmental database (VFP of course). It was difficult to get the buyers in Finance to approve the devices, but we convinced them based on cost savings. If we could use iPaqs (a Palm-like PDA) we would need to buy fewers pcs, and thus save our department and the organization money.
When the PDAs arrived on site, for some reason... the VP of Finance and the director of Informations Systems grabbed them for themselves. No reason has been given to us but the buyers in Finance have promised that they will order two more for us. These devices are extremely hard to source and it may take more than 1 month for a shipment to arrive in Vancouver.
To add to this, the VP of Finance is the most powerful person in the organization since the CEO was axed 1 month ago. Sigh.
