Yeah I thought about this hole also and you're both right that it does hold the danger you mentioned. For my purposes the system admin knows that this is basically a "do it during the day just in case network crashes and something is better than nothing" method, but also a "Do it at end of day after everyone is out of the system for a clean backup" method.
