I guess no way. You may try old style of colors specification (color pairs) used in the FoxPro2.6 - color schemas. I remember, these schemas for different controls could have a large list of color pairs to specify back/fore colors for different items of some control, for example, items color in listboxes etc. Probably this will work for back color of checkbox.
In addition, there are 3 states in combobox: Try to assingn .NULL. or 2 to checkbox.Value and run such checkbox in test form - you will see third state of checkbox, it have different background (if this is acceptable for you).
