I hardly think that using a yes or no option would throw any users, no matter how experienced with windows UI, into any kind of mass confusion. I think the learning curve for a control that is simply yes or no would be completely flat. I was simply trying to get around the idea that some users would have a problem answering a question with NO by not checking a yes box. It is so much clearer if they could actually check YES or NO. I could see how they could feel it was simply unanswered if they didn't check anything.
