>I have a table that contains one record for each sequence number I need in my system. When I add a record to a table that needs a unique key, I go to this table, lock the record, take the next number, update the record, release the lock, and close the table. Somehow, however, duplicate sequence numbers are getting into some of my files, particularly one that has multiple users adding data at the same time. How can this be? Is there any other way I can ensure that 2 users don't pick up the same number?

Hard to say without seeing your code. I have code that I've used for years without fail .. as have others. You can find it in the KB section of my web site.
