Speaker: Matt Arnheiter
Topic: ASP.Net

We are happy to welcome back Matt Arnheiter who has previously spoken to us
about VB and also participated in our Devcon review.

Matt will be showing us some of the features of the new ASP.NET technologies
from Microsoft. He will try to keep the presentation at an introductory level,
showing off the new syntax, the event model, the "code-behind" ability of separating the
presentation from the code.

Once we understand what ASP.NET is, Matt will dig into some of the ancillary
services surrounding ASP.NET. These will include the infrastructure pieces like
caching, XCopy distribution, authentication models, and the factored architecture.

Lastly, he will show us the concept of Web Services. This is where
Microsoft intends to bring VFP developers into the Internet. It allows us to expose VFP
components to the Internet, an interesting concept that we will find to be of great immediate
interest. If time permits, he will show us a VFP/ASP.NET application that he built for
the last DevCon.

Those who have used ASP in the past should come away with a good idea of how
things have changed.

Our speaker:
Matthew Arnheiter is a senior Visual Basic and client/server developer at
GoAmerica Communication (http://www.goamerica.net) -- formerly Flash Creative Management a
Hackensack, NJ based company that provides corporate customers and mobile professionals with wireless
access to mission-critical data (email, intranet, internet, extranet).

Matt is responsible for designing and building enterprise and collaborative
solutions using VB, Exchange, SQL Server, and Web technologies. He is a
monthly columnist for Component Advisor magazine and was a contributor to
Sybex's MCSD Test Success: Visual Basic 6 Distributed Applications. He is
also a co-author, with Yair Alan Griver and Michael Gellis, of Visual Basic
Developer's Guide to UML and Design Patterns, recently published, also by
Sybex. Matt can be reached at 201-489-2500 or at marnheiter@goamerica.net.

A word about our meeting place.
-------------------------------
Fortunately, we were able to make it back to our old meeting place now
known as The Tin Alley Grill. The place has really been spruced up and
is barely recognizable. The room we are meeting in is really nice. Since
we are not being charged for the room, let's make sure we pay our way.
I would appreciate it very much if everyone made every effort to have
their meals at the meeting.

Please respond with your suggestions and comments. I can be reached at
ERICHMOND@esrassociates.com.

Hope to see you there.
