Having worked with SBT since before series 6 (that's about 10 years ago), I can tell you that VFP coding ability is important but not as important as some basic business knowledge. I have found that both business experience and accounting knowledge (even rudimentary) is a great help.
When a client want's the posting program changed to post to two expense accounts instead of an expense and a balance sheet account, you need to be able to look at them and with some knowledge ask them "why the hell would you want to do that?".
I can always learn new coding techniques, but knowing when people are asking the impossible from a business or accounting angle is not something one can learn easily.
Just my rant <g>
