Yes, I am using UNC in my development. My problems is, I may have 3 different application install for a company. The directory path for each database may not the same/ not as what we set. User may install it in any directory. Therefore, my application my not know where does the database stored. E.g.

App Name           Database
AppA               Data1
AppB               Data2
AppC               Data2

AppA need to access Data1 and Data2 for certain function
AppB need to access Data2 and Data3 for certain function

and etc.

Since AppA, B and C may install in different times and different directory, How does AppA know the path of Data2 when it is running in workstation?
