There was just a discussion about them on the ACCPAC Loop. Yes, they're legit. I suggest you tell the person to make sure they have licenses for everything, especially MS software. They can get huge fines if anything is found wrong.

>One of my Consulting SIG attendees sent me and e-mail asking me about www.bsa.org. He said he received a mailing from them indicating that if he comes clean about the software he's using and obtain the proper licenses, they won't come after him. If he doesn't, he doesn't know what they will do. Are they legit? What kind of tactics do they use, and what authority do they have?

>He e-mailed me on Saturday. In my local paper tonight there was an article stating that the software police are coming.
>
>From the article:
>The Software Police are coming. They are taking no prisoners unless you count hundreds of thousands in company assets. And they hope you'll consider a truce. Scared yet? The people who sell software hope so. In an effort to recoup the losses of unlicensed software, the major companies that form the usiness Software Alliance are running up the white flag. they're inviting companies large and small to comply with licensing agreements so that every piece of software on every computer is paid for.
>
>This month, the truce hits Cleveland and its surrounding communities along with Boston, Chicago, Dallas and Denver.
>In Northeast Ohio, only companies in ZIP codes between 44001 and 44l99 are eligible for the truce. Many of these companies received direct mailings from BSA that explained the clemency extended for the month and offered free compliance resources available online.

>I was just wondering if anyone else here has received anything from this group.
